Mamma's making a Girly Girl Quilt

I did it. I bought a quilt kit from Fat Quarter Shop to make Patricia Bravo's Sweet Girly Girl quilt that was featured in Quilt magazine issue #108 (February/March 2010). I went to Fat Quarter Shop's website and they had the kit but not the magazine. I searched high and low online but could not find a back issue to purchase so I emailed Art Gallery Fabrics directly asking where I could purchase a back issue or if they would sell me the pattern. Within minutes, and I mean only a few minutes, I got an email from Walter. He scanned the pattern from the magazine for me and was happy to share it with me. How nice is that? I swear, in a good way, crafty people are so nice and so helpful. So now if only my kit would get here...

Anyhow, this is the picture that I fell in love with. I am really thankful Walter emailed me the actual scan of the magazine because I would not have known about the free pillow pattern download. They are so cute and I clearly have pillows on my mind of late.

There are even fabric baskets you can make. How cute would all of this be in a little girly-girl's bedroom? I am thinking my little girly-girl will love it...SHE BETTER LOVE IT!
 

Now wish me luck that I can get my act together and actually make the quilt and pillows. So excited!

Pillows, Pillows and More Pillows with Fabric and Tutorials

Now that the holidays are over it is time for me to start focusing on some spring cleaning and decorating. I want to recover all the existing pillows I have on the sofas and make some new ones. In the living room we have cream colored sofas and a dark chocolate brown leather chair and ottoman. I think once I find the fabric I want, I can move forward. Here are few that I liked but I am still searching but these all have potential.

The leather furniture in the basement and the orange sectional in the loft are going to have to wait until the next go around. I need to focus on the main floor, including my bedroom before I can even begin to tackle another area.

I have been browsing all sorts of blogs and websites for inspiration and pillow tutorials. I had no idea there were so many. Who knew pillows were so hot?

As you can see, I am all over the place. Any suggestions for pillow patterns or fabric?

New Patterns, Magazines and My Love Hate Relationship with Joann

This past weekend I got a Joann flyer in the mail and saw that Simplicity sewing patterns were on sale. Since I am getting ready to start a new job I thought it would be nice to make some skirts and tops to wear to work. I went over to the Simplicity pattern site and scouted out what clothing patterns I wanted and headed on over to Joann Fabric.

I was pretty surprised when I discovered each sewing pattern I wanted was in stock. Yippy for me since this almost never happens. Here is a sample of the patterns I picked up.

 

 

 

Joann Fabric also had the spring editions of the Stitch and SewStylish magazines I wanted.

The Stitch magazine has a couple of really cute kids patterns in it plus a whole lot more.

The reason I got the SewStylish magazine is because they have a tutorial in it for copying your favorite tshirt. This is so timely since I just dripped curry sauce on my FAVORITE white tshirt. Ruined unless I want to dye it a yellowish-green color. Perhaps not.

Now on to my love/hate relationship with Joann Fabric. Please explain to me why each time I actually think of getting book, or magazine in this case, and have a coupon greater than 40% off that I plan to use, they have a measly 10% off sale on them? Why can't they charge me regular price and allow me to use my 50% coupon? That would have saved me $7.50 off the Stitch magazine! I know, I could have waited until the following week and used a 40% off coupon but I really, really, REALLY wanted to get it today. Who knows, I might get a few hours of free time this weekend from my fairy God mother. It could happen.

A new backpack for Ellie

The other day I got a new lunch sack and Ellie seems to think it is hers. She carries it every morning and asks if it is for her. I asked her if she would like me to make one for her and of course she did because she usually says yes to most things like that.

It is a multi-purpose kind of bag. Today she used it as a hat. :)

I measured the original bag and made pattern pieces. This version used ribbon for the straps but the next one will use fabric. I did not want to waste a ton of time on straps if my pieces did not sew together well.

I will post the pattern pieces and instructions in the coming days. Be on the look out.
