Mamma's making a Girly Girl Quilt

I did it. I bought a quilt kit from Fat Quarter Shop to make Patricia Bravo's Sweet Girly Girl quilt that was featured in Quilt magazine issue #108 (February/March 2010). I went to Fat Quarter Shop's website and they had the kit but not the magazine. I searched high and low online but could not find a back issue to purchase so I emailed Art Gallery Fabrics directly asking where I could purchase a back issue or if they would sell me the pattern. Within minutes, and I mean only a few minutes, I got an email from Walter. He scanned the pattern from the magazine for me and was happy to share it with me. How nice is that? I swear, in a good way, crafty people are so nice and so helpful. So now if only my kit would get here...

Anyhow, this is the picture that I fell in love with. I am really thankful Walter emailed me the actual scan of the magazine because I would not have known about the free pillow pattern download. They are so cute and I clearly have pillows on my mind of late.

There are even fabric baskets you can make. How cute would all of this be in a little girly-girl's bedroom? I am thinking my little girly-girl will love it...SHE BETTER LOVE IT!
 

Now wish me luck that I can get my act together and actually make the quilt and pillows. So excited!

Pillows, Pillows and More Pillows with Fabric and Tutorials

Now that the holidays are over it is time for me to start focusing on some spring cleaning and decorating. I want to recover all the existing pillows I have on the sofas and make some new ones. In the living room we have cream colored sofas and a dark chocolate brown leather chair and ottoman. I think once I find the fabric I want, I can move forward. Here are few that I liked but I am still searching but these all have potential.

The leather furniture in the basement and the orange sectional in the loft are going to have to wait until the next go around. I need to focus on the main floor, including my bedroom before I can even begin to tackle another area.

I have been browsing all sorts of blogs and websites for inspiration and pillow tutorials. I had no idea there were so many. Who knew pillows were so hot?

More Pajama Sewing

Remember when I made pajama pants for Rob? Well, before all of our jet-setting around last month, I made Ellie a matching pair only hers are far more girly.

I followed the same tutorial/pattern as her bandana pants. I made a few changes such as making them a little more narrow through the legs and I added a ruffle to the leg bottoms. I think they turned out super cute and she loves wearing them. She normally wants to wear them with a plain white tank because that is what dad normally has on with his.

Getting a Little Crafty and Making Some Pajama Bottoms

I am not sure what has gotten into me this past week, maybe the new job? Who know and who cares! I have been sewing and that in and of itself is enough to make me a very happy woman.

I started making my hubbie some pajama bottoms for Father's day but I did not get them finished until this past weekend. All I can say is they are "PERFECT!" His words. Ok, and mine. I wish I could show you a shot of him wearing them but I have had little luck in that department even though he has worn them for the past 2 nights.

Here are a few shots I took tonight after he ran out of the house. I had to play with the photos to lighten them up. I hope they are ok. I did not want to wait another day to post.

Each year I would buy Rob pajama bottoms from Old Navy for Christmas but this past year he said he did not want any more Christmas themed pajamas. Well, I have never been so insulted when it came to gift giving before in my life. Oh, wait. Yes I have. My sister-in-law did once say "oh great just want I need, more crap for my house" and a friend once said "for future reference, I do not need one more candle." Yeah, nice, huh? Anyway, I knew what Rob was saying. He still wanted the pajamas but he did not want to wear Santa hats in the middle of June. I get it.

I let him rummage through my fabric stash and select fabric.

 

He picked fish. He did not know he was picking something from my prized stash. After all, this was just not some fabric I just happened to have laying around. No, it has been in my craft room for a long time waiting for the perfect project to come along. Guess what? It finally did. I have enough fabric between the two that I can make pajama pants for Rob, Ellie and me. I do love that he picked a fabric with cute little black fish named Robert. It's a sign.

I looked at a ton of pajama pant patterns and tutorials but I decided to take a pair he already owned and has completely worn out and use them as a guide. I did not even bother ripping out seams. I just cut those tattered and torn things to pieces and traced them. The original pair had 4 pieces but I left the side seams intact and only had 2 pieces to sew. That does not mean I did any less sewing. I double stitched all the seams. I stitched all the seams in place and I even zigzagged them to keep them neat and tidy. I stitched the elastic in place so it would not shift or try and flip. I cannot recall another project in which I used so much thread. All I have to say, is these things better last a very long time with all the effort I put into them.

When I get around to making more pajamas for Ellie and me or more for Rob, I will share those pics too.
 

Crafty Goals for Last Week Update

We had a pretty busy weekend this past weekend but I did manage to make some real crafty progress on my crafty goals. My goals were:

1. Make a D-ring belt.
2. Make Ellie a pair of bandana pants.
3. Cut my Michael Miller fabric for my retro napkins.

I did not get the D-ring belt done but I did pick up the twill stabilizer I was going to use in the center and I picked out a ton of stash fabric pieces to do a patchwork version of the D-ring belt.

I did make the bandana pants for Ellie. She did not cooperate this morning when I wanted to take a picture of her in them but I promise I will get one tonight...whether she likes it or not. Ok, I know that sounds harsh but is bribing a 2 1/2 year old with chocolate really that harsh? I think not. I can be bribed with chocolate and I do not think it is harsh at all.

Ok, back on track here and more crafty goal updates. I did get my retro napkin fabric all cut out and lined up for some assembly line sewing. That is what I plan to do tonight when I get home. With any luck, they will be washed and on the clothes line in no time.
