Today, I am thankful for a lot. I am thankful that I was given fifteen years with my wonderful dog Maggie. She was with me for the bulk of my adult life and for all of my highs and lows. I am thankful that I had her in my life for as long as I have and I am thankful Rob and Ellie came to love her as much as I did. I am thankful I had the courage to make the hard decision. I am thankful I was able to keep the promise I made to her a very long time ago, to do what was best for her no matter how hard it would be for me.
Last night, I made the hardest journey of my life. I drove Maggie to the vet knowing she was not coming home with me.
Today I am certain she is doggie heaven taking long walks, chasing bunnies and laying in a nice sunny spot warming her fur. I know she is happy and without pain.
We miss you, Maggie.
