Remember Ellie's hat I made with green minky?
Well, I finally had the time to scan the pieces to post. These pieces are the original size which will fit up to an average sized 4 year old. Please add 1/4 inch for your seam allowance and add more if you want to make it larger.
1. Print front, back and bottom patterns out to scale. You will have to play with your printer or copier to do this but I have but a 1 inch square for assistance.
2. Lay the pieces out on fleece and cut as follows: one front, one back, one bottom on the right side and one bottom on the wrong side (ignore what the piece says).
3. With rights sides together, sew the front and back together leaving the bottom open.
5. With the right sides together, sew the two bottom pieces together leaving the top open.
7. Take the two small ends and pin them together, butting them up to one another, making a circle.
8. Zigzag stitch to join at the back of the hat band.
9. Top stitch all the way around the sewn edge of the bottom band, leaving the top open still. (No photo since it did not photograph well last night.)
10. With right sides together, attach the bottom band and hat top together, matching the side seams and center front and center back.
11. Sew all the way around, joining the hat top and bottom band. Fold bottom band down so the hat is completely right side out.
12. Sew a 1 inch peice of the hook part (scratchy) of the hook and loop tape (velcro) to the outside of the right side of the bottom band as shown.
13. Sew a 2 inch peice of the loop part (softer) of the hook and loop tape (velcro) to the inside of the bottom band as shown. I made this part of the velcro longer so it is more adjustable.
14. Knot the top and you are done!
If any part of this is confusing, as I am sure it is, shoot me an email and I will be happy to help you out.
