So Ellie loves blankets and pillows and always has. Before she was even born she had a ridiculous number of quilts...thanks to my wonderful friends and family. Now that she is older she is really hard on them. To try and give the nice blankets that were so lovingly made for her, I decided to make her some simple quilts. I hesitate to call them quilts because there is no piecing. Yep, that is right, no piecing. So Ellie loves blankets and pillows and always has. You will need:
2 yards of coordinating fabric for the front and back
Approximately 1 and 1/2 yards of batting that is wider than the fabrics you selected
Thread
1. Take the batting and lay if flat.
2. Place one yard of the fabric on top of the batting, right side up.
3. Place the second yard of fabric on top of the first yard of fabric but this time, right side down.
4. Pin all the way around the fabric/batting sandwich.
5. Sew around the edges, leaving about 8 inches open at the top.
Note: I rounded my corners slightly when sewing.
6. Trim the fabric/batting sandwich to a quarter of an inch.
7. Using the opening you left at the top, turn the quilt right side out.
8. Tuck the fabric at the opening in and iron the edges all the way around.
9. Top stitch 1/8 of an inch from the edge across the top of the blanket.
10. Stitch around random object printed on your fabric as I did or follow a pattern on your fabric.
Don't worry about making it perfect. This is really just a fun and practical blanket that can go in the washing machine over and over and over.
I would post a super cute picture of Ellie with it but this stupid computer or blog site keeps rotating my pictures funny. I have to get to the bottom of that. I will post it someday. :(
